Louisiana Monroe Signs Top Juco Prospect

MONROE, La.—The Louisiana Monroe baseball team landed a prize recruit on Wednesday when Joey Rapp signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Warhawks beginning with the 2011 season, head coach Jeff Schexnaider announced.

Rapp, a right-handed outfielder, batted .356 with 10 home runs, eight doubles and 34 RBIs in 35 starts last season as a

freshman at Chipola Community College. His outstanding season did not go unnoticed as the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder was selected in the 41st round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Players Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Joey has the potential to be one of the best players in our conference,” Schexnaider said. “He has played for one of the top junior college programs in the country and shown that he can really produce offensively.  Joey will have an impact on the middle of our lineup in a big way as soon as he steps on campus.”

Rapp helped lead Sarasota High School to the 2007 6A Florida State Championship and was named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Game in the summer following his senior year.
