Texas Remains #1 For Another Week

TUCSON, AZ — Texas has been ranked No. 1 for the fourth straight week in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Longhorns (43-8) have won 25 of their last 26 games. Over the past weekend, Texas beat Louisiana Tech. twice. Texas leads the nation with a 2.27 ERA and features a pitching staff that has a 3:1 strikeout (448) to walk (143) ratio.

Poll Notes: Several other teams have been exceptional. Virginia has won 14 in a row, Coastal Carolina 26 of 27, Florida 11 of 12, and Cal. St. Fullerton 14 of 15. In key series over the past weekend, Georgia Tech. beat Miami, Fla. two of three. Arizona St. and Arizona split the first two games of their 3-game series. South Carolina swept a 3-game series at Arkansas, and Rice beat Southern Mississippi two of three. Two teams fell out of the top 30 in Pittsburgh (2-2 last week with losses to Duquesne and Cincinnati) and Texas St. (1-3). New to the poll is Washington St. (won 6 of last 7, including 3-game sweep against California and two wins in three games at Stanford) and Arizona (split two games with Arizona St.).

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
