College World Series Pitching Match-Ups

The College World Series starts on Saturday in Omaha, NE, and the piching match-ups have been announced for all four first round games.

TCU will send freshman phenom Matt Purke (14-0, 3.23 ERA) to the mound in its first ever appearance at the CWS vs. Florida State.  Purke was selected with the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 2009 MLB Draft, but chose to go to college instead.

Florida State counters with sophomore Sean Gilmartin (9-7, 4.89 ERA).  The Seminoles are making their 20th CWS appearance.  The Florida State-TCU game starts at 2pm ET Saturday.

The second game on Saturday pits UCLA against Florida at 7pm ET.  Trevor Bauer (10-3, 3.02 ERA) will start for the Bruins.  The sophomore enrolled at UCLA in January, 2009 in what would have been his senior season in high school.

Florida will send fellow sophomore Alex Panteliodis (11-2, 3.26 ERA) to the hill.  He pitched his teams first complete game of the season last week against Miami (FL).

South Carolina and Oklahoma play their first round game at 2pm ET on Sunday.  The Gamecocks will go with senior Blake Cooper (12-1, 2.81 ERA), while OU counters with junior Michael Rocha (7-2, 3.57 ERA).

The last first round game of the weekend is number one overall seed Arizona State vs. Clemson.  The Sun Devils will go withh Pac 10 Pitcher of the Year Seth Blair (12-0, 3.35 ERA).  Clemson will employ junior Casey Harman (7-3, 3.73 ERA).  The game starts at 7 pm ET Sunday night.

The CWS will be played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium for the 61st and final time this year.  The College World Series is moving to downtown Omaha next year.
