Rosenblatt Keepsakes
It’s quite apparent that capitalism and remembering Rosenblatt Stadium go hand in hand around the ballpak these days. If it weren’t for such a worthwhile cause (the memories, not the profit) I wouldn’t bother mentioning it, but really these are must have items for me and for all fans of Rosenblatt:

Books:

  • The Road to Omaha - a must read by ESPN Magazine writer Ryan McGee. Captures the history, traditions, legends and emotions of the whole College World Series experience and the important role of Omaha’s minor league teams in sustaining the Blatt over the years.  Available at amazon.com and bookstores everywhere.
  • Diamond on the Hill – a 300+ page bookumentary of the Blatt. One of the most complete photo collections of Rosenblatt. loaded with stories of a local flavor. Available in front of the stadium during the CWS, at the Omaha World-Herald office in downtown Omaha and online at  www.omaha.com/cws.

Heirloom Plate

Borsheims’ Remember Rosenblatt is the first item in a Hometown Heritage series at the jewelry and fine furnishings store Warren Buffet liked so well that he bought it. The watercolor painting is by Maureen Beat. Get it at the Borsheims store in Omaha’s Regency Court or at borsheims.com.

DVD Documentary

The Long Home Run, narrated by Kevin Costner, portrays the legacy of Johnny Rosenblatt, his namesake stadium, the College World Series and the people of Omaha. Visit www.thelonghomerun.com to purchase a copy or search espnu.com for times it’s airing on tv.

Painting

Omaha artist Peter Yesis offers 18″ x 24″ prints of his spectacular, life-like painting of the Blatt from the vantage point of the third base line. You can view or purchase online for only for $125.00 plus shipping.

Other Authentic Items
You know you’re getting authentic dirt when you buy it from the source.  The Omaha Royals, Rosenblatt’s Minor League Baseball tenant, is selling everything from t-shirts to Rosenblatt replicas to actual dirt that is scooped off the infield and encased in acrylic frames and keychains. Get yours at the tent located just outside the main entrance or at www.shoprosenblatt.com.

Websites

Two free online community sites, www.rememberrosenblatt.com and www.rosenblattmemories.com, were recently launched for people wishing to share their memories, photos and videos of Rosenblatt Stadium.

T-Shirts

There is virtually no limit to the number of businesses putting their own stamp on t-shirts commemorating the Blatt’s final year. Honorable mention goes to The Dugout and Stadium View Sports, two local retailers that created hybrid shirts that pay tribute to the stadium and serve as calling cards for their business.  My personal favorite is the simple white t-shirt I saw hanging outside a small shop at 17th & Vinton that reads “Tell me again what’s wrong with Rosenblattin black text, adorned by a silhouette of the Blatt.

I will keep adding items as they become known to me.
