Cal State Fullerton Highlights Non-Conference Slate…

LSU is unofficially the first of 300 Division One college baseball playing schools to release its 2011 schedulePaul Mainieri’s Tigers have 37 home contests on the slate, and while you can yada yada your way through early home series vs. the likes of snowbirds Holy Cross and Princeton, there’s an early March non-conference series on tap in Baton Rouge that’s hard to ignore.

Alex Box Stadium

Cal State Fullerton visits Alex Box Stadium for a three-game series March 11-13 in a series that pits two of the perennial programs in the nation.  While neither reached the College World Series this year, both made it to Omaha in 2009, with LSU claiming its sixth national championship.

LSU has been to the CWS 15 times, including five appearances since 2000.  Fullerton boasts 16 trips to Omaha, with six of those appearances since 2000.

Both teams were beaten by eventual national runner-up UCLA during the 2010 NCAA Tournament.  LSU fell 6-3 to the Bruins at the Los Angeles Regional and was then eliminated by UC Irvine.  Fullerton dropped two out of three games to UCLA in Super Regional play.
