Miami Series Highlights Spring Slate…

Appalachian State has unveiled its 2011 college baseball schedule. The Mountaineers open the season February 18-20 against Maryland-Eastern Shore in Forest City, NC. After playing Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, NC, Appalachian State then heads to Coral Gables, FL for a three game series with the Univeristy of Miami. The only previous meeting between the two schools came in NCAA Tournament play in 1973.

The Mountaineers open Southern Conference play March 4-6 in Charleston, SC against The Citadel, the defending regular season and SoCon Tournament champions.

Appalachian State plays a total of 27 home games in 2011, including SoCon series vs. Elon, Wofford, Samford, Western Carolina, and Georgia Southern. It goes on the road for SoCon series against UNC Greensboro, Furman, Davidson, and the College of Charleston.

The 2011 SoCon Tournament is set for May 25-29 at Riley Park in Charleston, S.C.

In all, 13 of the Mountaineers’ 56 regular-season games come against teams that advanced to postseason play in 2010.
