Mercer posted a 4-2 win at #29 Georgia, dropping the Bulldogs’ record perilously close to .500 (25-24). Should UGA now win the SEC Tournament (automatic NCAA bid), the Bulldogs still sport an excellent RPI for NCAA at-large consideration – but they also must finish above .500 in order to be chosen. Georgia has a home series this weekend at Kentucky, followed by a midweek game vs. Kennesaw State, a challenging series at home vs. Vanderbilt and then the SEC Championship in Hoover, Ala.
#32 Florida International boosted its own NCAA hopes with a thrilling rally to beat #15 Stetson, 10-9 in 11 innings (FIU’s 13th win in a row). #22 Oklahoma State‘s outside shot at earning one of the 16 #1 seeds into the NCAA took a shot with Wednesday’s 3-2 loss at Ohio State.
