GARCIA set the table throughout the Sun Belt Tournament, as 8th-seeded UALR (which won only 20 games in the regular season) swept its three pool-play games – 4-2 vs. cb360 #27 Troy, 9-5 vs. Western Kentucky and 5-3 vs. #48 Florida Atlantic – before holding off #24 Florida International in the 7-6 title game.

Over the course of the four tournament games, Garcia reached base 10 times (7-for-15, 2 BB, HBP) and scored a team-best seven runs, adding three RBI, a key home run, a sacrifice bunt and a pair of stolen bases. The shortstop also played error-free in the field, converting all 16 of his chances.

In the opening win over top-seeded Troy, the 6-foot-1/190-pound Garcia had an early solo home run before playing a lead role in UALR’s 10th-inning rally, with a 2-out RBI single to right field and ensuing run scored as the Trojans emerged with the 4-2 win. He returned the next day to bat 3-for-5 and factor into three of his team’s runs (RBI-2R), as the Trojans clinched a spot in the Sun Belt title game following the win over WKU.

Shortstop Greg Garcia reached base 10 times, scored a team-best seven runs and made no errors spanning four pressure-paced games – as #8 seed Arkansas-Little Rock stunningly won the Sun Belt Tournament to earn a spot in the NCAAs.

Despite not having to win the third game, Little Rock handed NCAA hopeful FAU a costly loss, with Garcia contributing a single and run scored. In the title matchup vs. #2 seed FIU – one of the hottest teams in the nation – Garcia reached base four times (1-for-2, 2 BB, HB), stole a base and scored twice in the historic victory that sent UALR to the NCAAs for the first time in the program’s history.

BECK won both of his starts – 4-2 vs. College of Charleston and 1-0 vs. #3 seed Samford – while allowing only one run and striking out 22 batters in 17 total innings (8H-2BB-HB), as the 4th-seeded Eagles soared to the Southern Conference Tournament title. The 6-3, 200-pound righthander faced only 63 batters spanning the 17 innings (3.7 batters per innings), with an impressively low 5.3 WHIP (walks+hits per 9 IP) while limiting opposing hitters to a .131 batting average during the tournament.

Georgia Southern drew the final game of the opening day of the SoCon Tournament … but game-4 actually was played on a different day than the first three, as the game-3 marathon (#8 seed Western Carolina ipset #1 Elon) ended up being a 20-inning marathon that pushed the GS-vs.-Charleston start time to 12:30 a.m. (the game ended at 3:01 in the morning).

Despite the late (or “early”) start, Beck struck out the side three times en route to a career-high 13 Ks, allowing one earned run and one unearned run on five hits, a pair of walks and a hit batter in eight full innings versus the Cougars.

Georgia Southern's Chris Beck won both of his starts while allowing only one earned run and striking out 22 in 17 total innings, leading the Eagles to the Southern Conference Tournament title (capped by a 1-0 final vs. Samford)..

Four days later, Beck returned to the mound knowing that his team’s only route to the NCAAs was the title-game win and corresponding automatic bid. His teammates scored only one run – courtesy of a 3rd-inning wild pitch – but that’s all they would need, as Beck sparkled in a 3-hit/9-K shutout (his 22 total Ks set a SoCon Tournament record).

Beck faced only 31 Samford batters (four above the minimum) in the title showdown, with only one Bulldogs runner reaching second base – after a pair of 1-out errors. Samford’s first hit earlier had come on a Kevin Putkonen single with 2-outs in the 2nd inning, but Beck popped up Brandon Powell for the third out. One inning later, a dropped fly and fielding error put two runners aboard for the Bulldogs – but Brad Moss lined out to first base for a stunning double play.

Moss was the next Samford batter to reach, on a 2-out single in the 6th, but Saxon Butler fouled out to the catcher as the Eagles were nine outs from the NCAAs. Beck then retired eight straight before Butler singled into the right-center gap – only to see Beck blow strike three past Brandon Miller, ending the game and the tournament.

Chargois is the CB360 Primetime Player of the Week and Johnson the Primetime Pitcher, with 12 other players (listed below) joining them on the week-14 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll.

The switch-hitting CHARGOIS had multiple hits in all three of Rice’s wins during the past week, as the Owls boosted their chances for being an NCAA Tournament host with a 6-4 midweek win over Southland Conference champ Texas State (cb360 #34) before earning a share of the Conference USA regular-season title with a series win at #16 Southern Mississippi (4-0, 16-2, 3-7). The 2-hole batter hit at a .600 clip (9-for-15, plus a pair of walks) during the pressure-packed week while factoring into 11 of his team’s runs (7 RBI, 4 R, 2B, 2 sac. bunts).

Rice's J.T. Chargois had plenty to celebrate during a week that saw him hit 9-for-15 with seven RBI, four runs scored, a pair of walks, a double and two sac. bunts (spanning a key midweek win over Texas State and a series win at Southern Miss).

Chargois opened the week with a solid all-around game vs. Texas State (2-for-2, 2RBI-2R-2B-2B) before playing a key role in the first win over Southern Miss (2-for-3, R, 2 SAC), forging a tie atop the CUSA standings. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder then was one of the offensive leaders in the game-2 blowout, batting 4-for-6 with four RBI and a run scored. He closed the week with his seventh hit of the series, adding an RBI and walk as the Eagles salvaged game-3.

JOHNSON delivered a 4-hit/no-walk shutout vs. #1 Virginia, launching UNC on to a series sweep of the Cavaliers – and placing the Tar Heels firmly in the discussion for an NCAA top-8 seed. The 5-11, 170-pound righthander faced two batters over the minimum (29), with nine strikeouts in the 136-pitch outing. The veteran hurler allowed only two baserunners into scoring position and retired the final 15 batters he faced.

For virtually all of his outing at Virginia, Johnson kept the ball in the infield – with 23 of his 27 outs coming via Ks, groundouts (10), infield popups/foulouts (3) and a pickoff move. John Barr had a 1-out single in the 1st but failed to advance, while a John Hicks single in the second was quickly erased when Johnson rolled up a 4-6-3 double play.

David Coleman singled in the 3rd and moved up on a sac.-bunt, but Johnson quickly ended the threat. Barr followed with a single in the 4th, only to see Johnson start the 1-3-6 pickoff that cleared the bases. Danny Hultzen singled leading off the 5th and advanced on a pair of groundouts, with Johnson then striking out Jared King as part of his game-ending 15 straight batters retired.

Seven of Johnson’s final 13 outs came on strikeouts, including all three UVa batters in the 8th (Kenny Swab, Coleman and King), plus pinch-hitter Reed Gragnani leading off the 9th. Johnson is entering the postseason with a 10-1 record and 2.74 ERA, plus 94 strikeouts, only 26 walks (3.6 K/BB ratio) and 71 hits allowed (.229 opp. avg.) in 85.1 innings.

Wittels is the CB360 Primetime Player of the Week and Radziewski the Primetime Pitcher, with nine other players (listed below) joining them on the week-13 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll.

WITTELS – who ended the 2010 season riding a 56-game hitting streak – had a huge game in FIU’s 10-9, 11-inning victory at Stetson (#15 in the CB360 Composite National Rankings), as the Golden Panthers boosted their NCAA Tournament resume with a high-quality RPI victory. When the dust had settled in that battle with the Hatters, the 6-2/205-pound Wittels had reached base on all six of his plate appearances – after batting 5-for-5 out of the 2-hole, plus a hit-by-pitch, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored, a double and the winning home run. He then helped surging FIU push its unbeaten streak to 16 games, with a 2-0-1 series vs. Arkansas State, leaving the Panthers in a near-tie with Troy atop the Sun Belt Conference standings.

Garrett Wittels delivered a huge game at #15 Stetson (5-for-5, 2RBI-3R-HR-2B-HBP-SB), with an RBI and run scored in FIU's 5-run, 9th-inning rally – plus the 11th-inning home run in that 10-9 thriller.

After stroking 1-out single and swiping a base in the 1st inning, Wittels added another 1-out single in the 3rd inning at Steton but again was stranded, as the Hatters maintained an early 3-0 cushion. Wittels came to the plate once more with 1-out (in the 5th) and was hit by a pitch, sparking a 2-run rally that cut Stetson’s lead to 7-4. The FIU 2-hole hitter added a leadoff double in the 7th but was stranded at third base, as the winning streak looked to be in danger.

FIU needed a rally in the 9th and Wittels played a central role, with an RBI single and run scored as the visitors pushed across five runs for a 9-7 reversal (Stetson answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 9th). Wittels had one final salvo, jumping on an 0-2 pitch from RHP Jake Boyd and sending it over the right-field fence for an opposite-field home run leading off the 11th. FIU went on to close out the game, extending its win streak to 13 games.

Wittels went on to help FIU extend its unbeaten streak to 16 games, in a 2-0-1 series vs. Arkansas State (2H-2BB-2R).

RADZIEWSKI – who has emerged as one of the top young pitchers in the talent-rich ACC – outdueled Virginia ace Danny Hultzen (1.42 season ERA; 29-4 career record) in the 6-2 series opener at #1 UVa’s Davenport Field. The 6-1/185-pounder bested his fellow lefty, allowing one earned run in 7.0 innings while totaling 18 of his 21 outs via strikeouts (7), groundouts (9) and pickoff plays (originated by the pitcher), with four hits allowed and only one walk. Radziewski faced only 25 batters (four over the minimum) in the 100-pitch outing.

After retiring the first nine batters he faced, Radziewski allowed a pair of runs (one unearned) in the 4th, followed by three more shutout innings vs. one of the nation’s top offensive teams (.309 team batting avg.; 7.5 runs/gm).

Miami freshman Brian Radziewski outdueled Virginia ace Danny Hultzen in a 6-2 series-opening road victory.

Stephen Proscio was the only Virginia batter to reach base in the 5th-7th innings, with a leadoff walk in the 7th – but Radziewski quickly erased the runner on his second pickoff throw of the game.

Radziewski’s impressive rookie season now includes a 3.10 ERA and 8-2 record, plus 72 strikeouts, only 25 walks and 68 hits allowed in 72.2 innings.

Mulroy is the CB360 Primetime Player of the Week and Meyer the Primetime Pitcher, with eight other players (listed below) joining them on the week-12 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll.

The imposing 6-foot-9, 220-pound MEYER delivered a shutout victory in a 2-0 pitchers duel opposite Vanderbilt ace Sonny Gray, a key result in the three-team battle for the SEC regular-season title as Vanderbilt (cb360 composite #3; #1 in several polls) remains in a tight race with South Carolina and Florida. The veteran righthander was in control for most of the game – racking up 22 of his 27 outs via strikeouts (5), groundouts (10), a pair of infield popups, a lineout double-play, a caught-stealing, a foulout and a pickoff move while facing only 31 batters (four over the minimum) in a 110-pitch outing that included 72 strikes.

Alex Meyer outdueled Vanderbilt ace Sonny Gray, in one of the nation's top pitching matchups of the season (2-0 win; 9IP-5H-BB-5K-31BF).

Meyer delivered Kentucky’s first win over a #1-ranked team since another victory over Vanderbilt, in a 2007 game vs. a Commodores team led by the likes of current big-leaguers David Price and Pedro Alvarez. Vanderbilt currently ranks as the SEC’s top hitting team (.320), with a conference-best 7.0 runs per game.

Vanderbilt leadoff batter Tony Kemp went 3-for-4, but Meyer limited the rest of the Commodores lineup to a 2-for-25 combined effort (and only one walk from the entire VU team). Thanks to the double play and caught-stealing, Meyer faced the minimum 18 batters through the first six innings and did not allow a batter into scoring position until the 7th inning. He did not allow an extra-base hit throughout the pressure-packed game and registered first-pitch strikes vs. 17 of the 31 batters.

Meyer – who won a similar shutoutt a few weeks back vs. Arkansas – came out firing in the 1st inning, with strikeouts of Kemp, Anthony Gomez and Aaron Westlake. Jason Esposito then singled to lead off the 2nd but was erased on a 2-6 caught-stealing. The Commodores went down in order in the 3rd, 5th and 6th (with Kemp’s leadoff single in the 4th negated by a 9-3 double play).

Alex Meyer has emerged as one of the top pitchers in the talent-rich SEC and the entire nation (2.98 season ERA, 96 Ks, .220 opp. batting avg.).

The final three innings saw Meyer work around leadoff baseunners. Kemp singled in the 7th, moved up on a sac.-bunt but was stranded at second. Mike Yastrzemski drew a walk in the 8th and advanced on a pair of groundouts, putting the shutout in jeopardy and giving Vanderbilt a chance to rally (Kentucky had scored in the 7th for a close 2-0 cushion) – but Meyer induced a groundout to second base from pinch-hitter Sam Lind. Connor Harrell and Kemp singled to start the 9th, but Meyer closed things out with a lineout, popup and K from the 2-3-4 hitters Gomez, Westlake and Esposito.

It was the first shutout suffered by Vanderbilt in 78 games, dating back to a 2010 midseason matchup vs. eventual NCAA champion South Carolina (0-2).

Meyer leads the SEC with four complete games and 96 strikeouts (in 87.2 innings), with a 2.98 season ERA and lowly .220 opponent average. Only 11 of his 66 hits allowed have gone for extra-bases.

MULROY helped lead Princeton to claiming the Ivy League’s automatic berth in the 2011 NCAAs, after winning the Ivy League Championship Series over Dartmouth (9-2; 4-5; 8-5). In addition to directing the Tigers pitching staff to a strong all-around series, the 5-11, 200-pound cleanup batter hit .546 (6-for-11) during the three games, with 11 total bases (HR, 2 2B). He factored into eight of Princeton’s runs (5 RBI, 4 R, HR), including a pair of sacrifice flies, and handled a pitching staff the compiled a 3.46 staff ERA in the tense championship series.

Princeton – which won the Ivy League’s Lou Gehrig Division – will be heading to the NCAAs with a 23-22 overall record and is the first team officially in the 64-team NCAA field.

Sam Mulroy has led the Princeton offense all season, most recently in the Ivy League Championship Series vs. Dartmuth (6-for-11, 5 RBI, 4 R, HR, 2 2B, 2 SF).

MULROY powered Princeton to the key opening win vs. Dartmouth, batting 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and a pair of runs scored, with a home run, double and sac.-fly. His leadoff home run opened the scoring in the 2nd inning, followed by the sac.-fly in the 6th and an RBI double that sparked a clinching 4-run bottom of the 8th.

In Saturday’s second game of the series, Mulroy contributed a single as Princeton jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Dartmouth rallied to force a deciding Sunday game. The Tigers proved ready for that clutch situation, with Mulroy batting 3-for-7 while factoring into half of the team’s runs (2 RBI, 2 R, 2B). He again opened the scoring, with an RBI single in the 1st, and then singled (R) to leadoff the bottom of the 3rd as the Tigers scored twice for a 4-1 lead (followed by a sac.-fly in the 4th).

Mulroy kept rolling to help clinch the Ivy League title, with a 2-out double and run scored in the 6th as Princeton scored three more times for an 8-4 cushion. The Tigers went on to claim their 17th conference title but first since 2006.

The versatile BENNETT played a key role during the week, as Alabama boosted its NCAA resume with a 7-3 win at Southern Mississippi (cb360 #16) and a key SEC series win at #32 Mississippi State (5-4 in 10; 5-4, 5-8). The veteran catcher hit 10-for-17 (.588) out of the 2-hole while factoring into eight of the Tide’s runs (5 RBI, 3R), with the 5-10, 165-pounder adding a walk, three sacrifice bunts, a pair of doubles and three stolen bases.

Bennett opened the week by batting 3-for-4 with an RBI double, sacrifice bunt and run scored in the big upset of Southern Miss. He then hit 7-for-13 in the series at Mississippi State (4 RBI, 2R, 3 SB). In the tense series opener, Bennett drove in a pair of runs (2-for-5; SAC) as the visiting Tide won 5-4 in 10 innings. A few hours later, Alabama clinched the series while winning by the same score – with Bennett’s 2-out RBI single tying the game in the 8th (and setting up the go-ahead/eventual winning run).

Following his 3-for-4 showing in game-2 (R, SAC, 2 SB), Bennett returned to Polk-DeMent Stadium the next day and again ranked as one of the team leaders, batting 2-for-4 with an RBI, run scored, walk and another stolen base.

His final line included four hits allowed and three walks, with three strikeouts.

BOAS proved to be a valuable all-around player during the series at West Coast Conference leader Gonzaga, as the Gaels won the series (2-5, 12-1, 7-6) to jump into contention for the WCC title. the 5-8, 150-pound sparkplug turned in a strong defensive effort throughout the series while batting 6-for-13 (.462) out of the leadoff spot and factoring into seven of his teams runs (3 RBI, 4 R), adding a triple, walk and two stolen bases.

During the decisive series finale, Boas hit 2-for-5 with a run scored, a pair of RBI and two stolen bases. His 9th-inning single down the rightfield line – while facing the league-leader in ERA, Cody Martin (0.76) – chased home Donald Collins as the tying run. Moments later, Boas swiped second base and ended up motoring around to score the eventual winning run (Gonzaga scored once in the bottom of the 9th).

Boas hit 3-for-4 in game-2, scoring twice and driving in another run as the Gaels tied the series.

OGLE earned the Primtime Player honors despite the fact that his team went only 2-2 during the week – due to the fact that the veteran leader had such a strong overall week against top opposition (both losses were by one run and on neutral fields, with one coming in extra-innings). During that four-game stretch, Ogle torched the opposing pitchers by batting 11-for-17 (.647) with 21 total bases (3 home runs, plus a double; 1.235 slugging pct.). He factored into 16 of the his team’s runs during the week (11 RBI, 8 R, 3 HR), with 13 total tiles on-base (BB, HBP) for a .650 on-base pct. and a gaudy 1.885 OPS (on-base plus slugging).

In all four of the games, Ogle posted multiple RBI and had 2-plus hits in all but one of the pressure-packed matchups. He matched his career high with 4-hit games in the opener and finale of the Bedlam series, while scoring three runs in each game versus the Cowboys. His series stat line vs. Oklahoma State included batting 10-for-14 (.714) with 9 RBI and a pair of home runs. (both came in game-2, for the first multiple-HR game of Ogle’s career).

Ogle nearly carried the Sooners to a win in the series-deciding third game vs. Oklahoma State, batting 4-for-4 with a walk, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. His clutch 2-run single capped a 2-out rally in the 9th, as OU pushed across three runs to ultimately force extra-innings.

In addition to ranking fifth among Big 12 players with a .367 overall batting avg., Ogle ranks third on the Big 12 home run chart (7) and is second on the Sooners with 31 RBI. He ended the Bedlam series having hit safely in 11 of the past 12 games.

CRIBB made the most of his first collegiate start, piecing together eight-plus scoreless innings to lead a 2-0 win over #4 South Carolina – the program’s first shutout of the in-state rival Gamecocks in 40 years. The rookie scattered eight hits and three walks while pitching into the 9th inning. The 5-foot-9/160-pound lefty had yet to pitch more than 2.2 innings this season but kept the defending champs in check over the course of his 123-pitch outing.

Twice during the ASU series, Dunn put the Beavers up for good with timely doubles. His 2-out/2-run double pushed Oregon State to 7th-inning, 3-2 lead in the tense opener (the clutch hit sparked a 4-run bottom of the 7th for the home team). He added two hits, an RBI and run scored in the series-clinching second game – followed by a 2nd-inning home run and another 2-run double (in the 3rd) to transform a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead in the series finale.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder is hitting .292 for the season, with 14 RBI.

HULTZEN added to his masterful season and career by winning the opener at Georgia Tech (cb360 #9), outdueling fellow top pitcher Mark Pope in the 6-2 opener. The 6-3, 200-pound lefthander allowed only one earned run (one unearned) while taking his strong outing into the 9th. He racked up 12 strikeouts while yielding a single walk and scattering seven hits in the pressure-packed showdown – versus a high-powered offense that boasted a .331 team batting average.

Hultzen now shares the Virginia record for career wis (27) and owns 13 career games with double-digit strikeouts (the Cavaliers have won each of those games). His other career stats include 320 strikeouts (a UVa record and 15th in ACC history). His 90 Ks this season are 25 more than any other pitcher in the conference, with his other season stats including a 1.33 ERA, a lowly .181 opp. batting avg. and an eye-popping 9.0 k-to-walk ratio (90/10; 14.9 Ks per 9 IP).

The week-8 Primetime Performers feature two shortstops, a pair of first basemen, and two lefthanded pitchers, plus a catcher, third baseman, outfielder and RHP. The 10 honorees include six juniors, two sophomores, a senior and freshman – with three of them hailing from California hometowns, plus one each from the following home states: Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Oregon.

Primetime Performer Award Criteria (not based solely on raw stats, but rather …)

• Involved in clutch performances, such as late game-winning hits, noteworthy comebacks, game-changing plays, team leadership, key defensive efforts, etc.
• Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).
• Any accomplishment that is rare, historic, record-setting, etc., on a national level.

After drawing a walk in the win over Ole Miss, Bourgeois torched the UCF pitching staff by batting 10-for-13 (.769) in the series sweep. His 3-for-5 effort in the opener included a tie-breaking, 3-run blast for the final margin (UCF scored twice in the bottom of the 9th). The Southern Miss cleanup batter returned to Bergman Field the next day and rapped out a career-high five hits, with three RBI, three runs, another home run, a triple and a stolen base as USM clinched the series.

Bourgeois finished his big weekend by batting 2-for-3 with three more RBI and a sacrifice bunt (his late, two-run single helped preserve the series-sweeping victory).

CARROLL logged 7.1 shutout innings against #7 Florida State, as the Terrapins ended a 40-game losing streak against the Seminoles (dating back to the 1998 season). The 5-0 shutout was Maryland’s first home win over FSU since 1993.

The imposing 6-foot-8, 235-pound righthander totaled 19 of his 22 outs via strikeouts (7), groundball outs (9, including a pair of double-play balls), infield popups/foulouts (2) and a 2-4 caught-stealing. Carroll impressively kept the ball in the infield for nearly all of his outing – with the ball reaching the outfield only five times (on two of his three hits allowed and three flyouts).

James Ramsey’s 1st-inning single up the middle stood as Florida State’s only hit that reached the outfield, until a Devon Travis double in the 8th (Carroll’s final batter faced). The Maryland ace worked around six walks and a hit batter (plus the three hits) and ultimately left only four runners on base (others were erased on the pair of double plays, the caught-stealing and a runner thrown out on the bases; two runners turned over to the bullpen).

Carroll’s impressive season includes a 2.15 ERA and 5-1 record (he also was named to the CB360 Primetime Performers earlier this season, after beating national power Texas during an opening-week series).

Being “out in left field” must have been a good thing during the past week of play, as three of the current Primetime honorees are leftfielders – along with four pitchers (3 RHPs and a LHP), a shortstop, a DH and a SS/2B. The 11 Primetime honorees for week-7 include one senior, seven juniors, a sophomore and two freshmen. Two of the Primetime Performers hail from the home state of Texas, plus one each from Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington (along with the Quebec native Bourgeois).

Primetime Performer Award Criteria (not based solely on raw stats, but rather …)

• Must have been playing for or against a CB360 top-50 team (in the Composite National Rankings) or performed a high level in games that could be key to a team’s conference/NCAA postseason qualification; made significant contribution to team’s postseason positioning (single-game wins, “quality” wins, series wins, road wins, etc.).
• Involved in clutch performances, such as late game-winning hits, noteworthy comebacks, game-changing plays, team leadership, key defensive efforts, etc.
• Performed at a top level against a team rated highly nationally (or within its conference), with bonus consideration given for key performances away from home field and vs. traditional rivals.
• Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).
• Any accomplishment that is rare, historic, record-setting, etc., on a national level.

SKOLE was an all-around offensive force while batting out of the 3-hole during a 4-0 week (8-3 at rival Georgia; 8-3, 12-3 in 10 inn., and 3-1 sweep at #30 Miami), as the Yellow Jackets pushed their win streak to 16 games. His 20 total bases included a pair of home runs (one a grand slam) and three doubles while he factored into 13 of his team’s run (11 RBI, 4 R) and reached base 14 times, with three walks.

In the rivalry showdown at Georgia, Skole hit 5-for-5 with 8 RBI and the pair of home runs. He added a pair of multiple-hit games while batting .429 in the three games at Miami (3 RBI, 3 2B), as the Jackets swept a road series from Miami for the first time since 1967. Skole’s clutch RBI double broke a 1-1 tie in the 9th inning of the series finale, securing the sweep and keeping the win streak alive.

MAZZONI outdueled Clemson ace Scott Weismann in the 4-0 series opener, with the 4-hit shutout vaulting the Wolfpack on to a series victory over the #16 Tigers. It was the first shutout posted by N.C. State since a combined shutout vs. Texas in 2004. The 6-1, 195-pound righthander matched his career high with 10 strikeouts in the impressive series opener, while facing only 35 batters, with a pair of walks. Clemson ranks among the nation’s top offenses, currently owning a .318 team batting average while averaging nearly eight runs scored per game.

Clemson managed a 2-out double by Jeff Schaus in the opening frame and Richie Shaffer had a leadoff single up the middle in the 2nd – but Mazzoni then retired 16 consecutive batters (and 20 of the next 21). The Tigers tried to rally, loading the bases with 2-outs in the 8th, but Schaus popped up to shortstop to extend the shutout. Two runners were aboard in the 9th, but Mazzoni closed things out on a Will Lamb groundout and Jason Stolz flyout to right field.
