The honor recognizes distinguished individuals 25 years after <a href="http://collegebaseball360.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Jackson2.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-14041" title="Jackson(2)" src="http://collegebaseball360.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Jackson2-114x150.jpg" alt="" width="114" height="150" /></a>the conclusion of their college careers.</p>
<p>While at <strong>Auburn University</strong>, Jackson won the 1985 <strong>Heisman Trophy</strong>. He ran for 1,786 yards that season, which at the time was the second-best single-season rushing performance in SEC history. Jackson also batted .401 with 17 home runs and 43 RBIs during the 1985 baseball season for the Tigers. Jackson went on to star for the <strong>Oakland Raiders</strong> and the <strong>Kansas City Royals</strong>, becoming the first player to be named an All-Star in both sports. A hip injury suffered on the gridiron ended his career prematurely.</p>
<p><a href="http://collegebaseball360.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Girardi21.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-14044" title="Girardi(2)" src="http://collegebaseball360.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Girardi21.jpg" alt="" width="119" height="150" /></a>Girardi was a two-time All-Big Ten selection on the baseball diamond during his career at <strong>Northwestern University</strong>. He was a third-team ABCA All-American in 1985 and was also a three-time Academic All-American before graduating in 1986. Girardi went on to a 15-year MLB career with five teams. He was named the 2006 National League Manager of the Year in his only season leading the <strong>Florida Marlins</strong>. Girardi also managed the <strong>New York Yankees</strong> to the 2009 World Series Championship.</p>
<p>The four other Silver Anniversary honorees are <strong>Lisa Caputo, Teresa Edwards, Tim Green</strong>, and <strong>Scott Verplank</strong>.</p>
<p>The six will be recognized at the NCAA Convention on January 14 in San Antonio, TX.</p>

<div id="attachment_1553" style="width: 119px" class="wp-caption alignleft"><a href="http://collegebaseball360.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Gerhart2.jpeg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1553" title="Gerhart" src="http://collegebaseball360.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Gerhart2-258x300.jpg" alt="Gerhart (Stanford Photo)" width="109" height="126" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Gerhart (Stanford Photo)</p></div>
<p>will end after playing in both a <strong>football bowl game</strong> and the <strong>College World Series</strong>.</p>
<p>While Sanders took his two-sport act to another level by winning <strong>Super Bowls</strong> with the <strong>San Francisco</strong> <strong>49ers </strong>and <strong>Dallas Cowboys</strong> and playing in the <strong>World Series</strong> with the <strong>Atlanta Braves</strong>, even he cannot make the claim that Gerhart will after Stanford plays in its bowl game at the end of this season.  (Sanders was also neither a <strong>Biletnikoff Award</strong> finalist nor <strong>Heisman Trophy</strong> hopeful, although he and Biletnikoff did both go to <strong>Florida State</strong>.)</p>
<p>Based on how Gerhart has performed this year odds are he will be a part of an even more select group of athletes who can say they hit a home run at the <strong>CWS </strong>and scored a touchdown in a bowl.</p>
