Wong enters his junior season on a roll in 2011. The Hilo, HA native had the chance to leave his home state when he was drafted in the 16th round by the Minnesota Twins in out of high school. Instead, he was named a Freshman All-American in 2009 and then earned All-WAC honors last year.

Wong was also named the WAC Tournament MVP after helping Hawaii to its first conference tournament title since 1992. He wasn’t done there though. After appearing in the program’s first NCAA Regional in four years, Wong was named the Cape Cod League MVP as a member of the Orleans Firebirds.

Wong was also recently named one to our Top 11 College Baseball 2B To Watch In 2011 list.

Columbia Baseball/Soccer Player Shining…

Playing one sport at the Division One level is tough enough, but Columbia’s Alex Aurrichio is one of a handful of student-athletes around the country who are playing two sports in college.

He’s also doing it at an Ivy League school to boot.

The Columbia junior just finished his third season as a goalkeeper for the Lions’ soccer team, and he’s now preparing to start another year on the diaamond.

Aurrichio’s power numbers took off last year, as he batted .329 with team-highs of 13 HR and 40 RBIs. He attributes his gains to Columbia strength coach Matt Herhal and personal trainer Britton Kelly.

Discipline-Passion-Detail At Michigan State…

This weekend is shaping-up to be a fun one in East Lansing. Michigan State hosts Notre Dame on the football field this Saturday night, but before that game the Spartan baseball team will host the Irish on the baseball field as well.

Jake Boss, Jr. is entering his third season at the helm at Michigan State, and his Spartans have already made big strides in his first two years, going from 23-31 in 2009 to 34-19 last season. In this interview with College Baseball 360 Editor Sean Stires Boss discusses things like this weekend’s fall exhibition with the Irish, the arrival of the pitch clock in college baseball and more.
