<p><strong><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-23407" title="maine" src="http://collegebaseball360.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/maine-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" />Maine </strong>has released its <a href="http://goblackbears.com/sports/m-basebl/2011-12/schedule">2012 college baseball schedule</a>. The Black Bears open their season Feb. 24-26 with a three game series at perennial power- <strong>Clemson</strong>. Most of the rest of college baseball opens the season a week earlier (Feb. 17-19).</p>
<p>A trip to Tallahassee, Fla. comes next, beginning with two games at <strong>Florida A&amp;M</strong> Feb. 28 &amp; 29. That two game set is followed by a trip across town for a three game series with another college baseball power-<strong>Florida State</strong>. Those games take place March 2-4.</p>
<p>The Black Bears will play four games March 7-11 at the <em>Winter Haven Baseball Tournament</em> in Winter Haven, Fla. The opponents for those four games are still TBD.</p>
<p>Maine travels back north to South Orange, NJ for the <em>Seton Hall Strike Out Cancer Tournament</em>. Three games take place March 16-18. Those three opponents are TBD as well.</p>
<p>The Black Bears play their home opener on April 3 again <strong>Husson</strong>. A total of just 14 home games are planned for the season.</p>
<p><strong>America East Conference</strong> play begins on April 6 with a four game series at UMBC. Other conference road series are at <strong>Binghamton, Albany</strong> and <strong>Hartford</strong>. Conference home series are against <strong>Hartford, Albany</strong> and <strong>Stony Brook</strong>.</p>

<p>2&#8230;wins by unranked <strong>New Mexico</strong> at #1 <strong>Texas </strong>in Austin.  The Lobos lost the season-opener on Friday, but came back with 3-1 and 6-5 wins Saturday and Sunday.  The wins are the first ever for New Mexico over a #1 ranked team.  Texas topped every national poll heading into the season.</p>
<p>.636&#8230;batting average by Lobo <strong>Max Willett</strong> in the 3-game series.  He had a 1.615 OPS with two doubles and a triple.  Willett also had the game-winning RBI in Saturday&#8217;s win.</p>
<p>23&#8230;runs by <strong>Washington State</strong> in Sunday&#8217;s 23-o rout of Seattle-the most runs by a Cougar team since 1999.  15 different Cougars had at least one hit.</p>
<p>5&#8230;Wazzou pitchers who combined in the shutout.</p>
<p>1,001&#8230;Career wins by <strong>LSU </strong>head coach <strong>Paul Mainieri</strong> after his Tigers&#8217; 3-game weekend sweep of <strong>Centenary</strong>.  Mainieri hit the 1,000 win mark with Saturday&#8217;s 25-8 victory.</p>
<p>1,000&#8230;Career wins by <strong>Ohio State</strong> head coach <strong>Bob Todd</strong> after his Buckeyes won three games over the weekend in Jacksonville, FL.  OSU pounded <strong>Richmond </strong>20-9 Sunday to get Todd to the milestone.</p>

<p><strong>Tennessee Transfer:</strong> Former Vermont shortstop <strong>Matt Duffy</strong> was the 2009 America East Player of the Year, and he has transferred to Tennesseee.  He batted .388 with 13 home runs and 57 RBIs.</p>

<p><strong>Tough Test:</strong> Binghamton faces defending national champion <strong>LSU</strong> in a single game in Baton Rouge on March 31.  It&#8217;s the first time in program history the Bearcats will play the defending NCAA champ.</p>
<p>The Bearcats have won three straight America East regular season titles, but they won their first conference tournament and earned the program&#8217;s first-ever NCAA Tournament bid in 2009.</p>

<p><strong>Big Shoes To Fill:  Shawn Retz</strong> led the Retrievers with a .383 avg. and 10 HR in 2009.  He also had a team-best 1.093 OPS while grounding into just 4 double plays.  <strong>Tom Meaney</strong> (.294, 9 HR, 15 doubles, 40 RBIs) is also gone.</p>
<p><strong>Who&#8217;ll Provide The Pop?:</strong> While Retz and Meaney combined for 19 home runs last season, the rest of the Retrievers totaled just 15 long balls.</p>
<p>The America East Conference schedule is now a six-team format with two divisions.  Teams will play a pair of three-game series&#8217; against divisional mates and play one four-game series against each of the other three teams. The four teams with the best overall win percentage (in either division) will advance to the America East Championship, played May 26-28 at the highest seed&#8217;s home field.</p>
