Matt White

University of Michigan baseball assistant coach Matt White has announced that he is leaving the Michigan baseball program to join up with super agency Boras Corp. led by agent Scott Boras. White was only at Michigan for a little over a year. While in Ann Arbor, White assisted the Wolverines as the team’s pitching coach. Prior to joining Michigan’s coaching staff, White served 3 years as a volunteer coach at baseball powerhouse Georgia Tech.

Scott Boras is adding a very valuable member to his team. Other than coaching experience at Michigan and Georgia Tech, White coached the Under 16 and Under 18 national teams for USA baseball. He also just happens to be a former 1st round MLB Draft pick (#7 overall to the San Francisco Giants in the 1996 Amateur Draft).

A couple of quotes from Georgia Tech head coach Danny Hall and USA Baseball Executive Director/CEO Paul Seiler really explain just how valuable White can be to Boras with regards to recruiting and client retention.

As White was leaving to Michigan from Georgia Tech, Hall said “I think he is one of the brightest young minds in college baseball. He is a future star in the college coaching ranks. He has a great story to tell the young kids who have a dream of playing in the major leagues. He can tell these young high school athletes that college might be a better option than opting for the pros.“

And Seiler stated the following,

“He is special. I have known Matt since he has been a boy and in every situation from that day until now, he handles himself with class, dignity and humility. As a parent I would always ask myself — would I have my son handed over to team or a coach to help become a better person and a better player. I would say definitely yes if Matt was the coach.“
