MONROE, La.— Three games against 2009 College World Series teams, a regular season-ending series with rival Louisiana-Lafayette and in-state matchups against LSU and Tulane highlight the 2010 ULM baseball schedule released Thursday by Warhawk head coach Jeff Schexnaider.

Full La.-Monroe 2010 Schedule

“I feel that we have a great schedule that our fans will enjoy and that will help our team reach a Regional,” Schexnaider said. “With 15 games against teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last season, the schedule provides us with the challenges we need to accomplish our goals.”

The Warhawks open the season at one of the eight Super Regional sites from last season for a three-game set against Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss., on Feb. 19-21. The series was originally scheduled for two mid-week games later in the year, but when the NCAA extended the season by one week it was moved to the beginning of the year with an extra game added.

Creighton, Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State await the Warhawks the following weekend (Feb. 26-28) in Nacogdoches, Texas, for a round robin tournament. ULM and Creighton met two years ago in Rosenblatt Stadium to end the regular season, while the Lumberjacks and Demons are old Southland Conference foes.

ULM travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., on Mar. 3 for the first of two games on the season against Southern Mississippi, who played in the 2009 College World Series. The Warhawks have won two straight games against the Golden Eagles on their home field, including a decisive 9-2 victory last season.

The Warhawks open their 26-game Warhawk Field schedule with a three-game set against Mississippi Valley State on Mar. 5-7.

A date with the defending national champions is next for ULM as it heads down to Baton Rouge, La., for a meeting with LSU at Alex Box Stadium on Mar. 9. The Warhawks then host Memphis in the first of a home-and-home series on Mar. 10 with the Conference USA foe before opening conference play.

The Sun Belt Conference opener will be a rematch of the Sun Belt Tournament Championship Game as the Warhawks travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for three games against Middle Tennessee on Mar. 12-14.

A trip to Northwestern State on Mar. 15 follows the league opener and Southern Mississippi makes its return trip to Warhawk Field on Mar. 16 to open a four-game homestand. New Orleans returns to Warhawk Field for the second consecutive year Mar. 19-21 for three Sun Belt games.

ULM hits the road for five of the next six games beginning with a Mar. 23 date at Texas-Arlington. A home contest against McNeese State on Mar. 24 breaks up the road trip before the Warhawks travel to Bowling Green, Ky., for three league games at Western Kentucky. Facing elimination, the Warhawks defeated the Hilltoppers twice in the Sun Belt Tournament last year to advance to the title game.

Following a return trip to McNeese State on Mar. 30, the Warhawks play six of their next eight games in the friendly confines of Warhawk Field beginning with a Mar. 31 matchup with Grambling State. NCAA Tournament foe Binghamton is in town for three games on Apr. 2-3.

The two road contests come mid-week as the Warhawks travel to Memphis and Central Arkansas on Apr. 6-7 before hosting Arkansas State on Apr. 9-11 in a three-game Sun Belt series.

A return trip to Grambling State on Apr. 13 breaks up a string of 12 league games. The Warhawks travel to Mobile, Ala., on Apr. 16-18 for three SBC games at South Alabama before returning home Apr. 23-25 for a three-game league set against Florida International.

Staying with teams from the Sunshine State, the Warhawks fly down to Miami, Fla., for three games against league foe Florida International on Apr. 30-May 2. ULM will look for its second straight victory in New Orleans, La., over Tulane on May 4 before returning home to host Troy on May 7-9 in a three-game Sun Belt series.

The final regular season road games send the Warhawks to Little Rock, Ark., for three league games against UALR on May 14-16.

The regular season wraps up with a home game against Northwestern State on May 18 and a three-game series against Louisiana-Lafayette on May 20-22. The series against the Ragin’ Cajuns marks the first time in ULM’s four years in the Sun Belt Conference that it will play a league series during the final weekend of play.

The top eight teams in the league will meet in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on May 26-29 for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with the winner earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss baseball team will play 34 home dates in the 2010 baseball season head coach Mike Bianco announced on Wednesday, as the Rebels look to defend their 2009 Southeastern Conference Championship and earn a ninth berth in the NCAA Tournament over the last 10 seasons.

Full 2010 Ole Miss Schedule

The Rebels’ schedule will feature home SEC weekends against Florida, Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas and Auburn, while Ole Miss will go on the road to face Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi State and Alabama. Vanderbilt rotates off the Rebels’ schedule in favor of the Tennessee Volunteers this season.

“As always, we’re playing a challenging schedule, but one that I think really will be of interest to fans of Ole Miss baseball,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “In addition to the SEC schedule, we’re going on the road to face Tulane and will bring Louisville here to Oxford – both teams who have been to the NCAA Tournament several times in the past few seasons.

“We try to schedule a good mix of teams that will be exciting for our fans,” Bianco continued. “We also want a schedule that will prepare us for conference play and another post-season appearance as we work towards our ultimate goal of continuing to bring championships to Ole Miss and advance to the College World Series.”

In addition to the 30 Southeastern Conference games, Ole Miss will also play a weekend series on the road against Tulane and will also welcome the Louisville Cardinals to Oxford for a weekend series. Eight of the teams on the schedule participated in the NCAA Tournament a year ago, comprising 23 games on the Rebels’ schedule.

Ole Miss opens the 2010 season with eight consecutive home dates, including weekend series’ against Louisiana-Monroe and Oakland before hitting the road to face the Green Wave. The Rebels will then play a pair of mid-week games against Austin Peay before welcoming Louisville and former Ole Miss assistant Dan McDonnell back to Swayze Field for a weekend series.

The Rebels then kick-off Southeastern Conference play the next weekend on the road at Kentucky. Two straight home weekends then await the Rebels with series against Eastern Division foes Florida and Tennessee before returning to the road for weekend contests at Georgia and South Carolina.

The second half of the conference season kicks off with the Rebels hosting LSU before taking to the road for a series against in-state rival Mississippi State. Ole Miss closes out the season against Arkansas at home before traveling to play Alabama and facing Auburn at home in the final series of the year.

Ole Miss also plays mid-week contests against Southern Miss at Trustmark Park and in Oxford, while also continuing the Governor’s Cup series against Mississippi State at Trustmark Park.

The Rebels open the 2010 season on Friday, February 19 against Louisiana-Monroe in a three-game series at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

(Courtesy Press Release)

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia will hold a celebration of the 2009 UVa baseball team at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Davenport Field prior to the start of Game 6 of the Orange and Blue World Series. Virginia will conduct its College World Series and ACC Championship ring ceremony at that time.

There will be a video presentation featuring highlights of the 2009 team’s historic season as part of the celebration. Admission for the evening is free of charge. Free hot dogs and Pepsi will be available for the first 2,000 fans in attendance.

Fans also will be invited on the field after the game to receive autographs from the Cavaliers.

Authentic Virginia old-timers hats will be available to the first 100 fans entering the ballpark for Game 6. The also will be raffle prizes available during the game, including team-signed baseballs, jerseys and 2009 baseball cards.

UVa will hold Youth Baseball Day on Oct. 16 as well. All Little League programs and youth 14 and under are welcome to attend.

At 5:30 p.m., all little leaguers will be welcome to come onto the field and play catch in the outfield, run the bases and meet the Virginia players. Three little leaguers will be chosen to throw out the first pitch, while one will be selected to introduce the lineups for the first inning. Players are encouraged to wear their baseball uniforms.

Virginia posted a 49-15-1 record last year and advanced to the College World Series for the first time in program history. The Cavaliers also won the ACC Baseball Championship and set a single-season school record for victories.

UVa notched its sixth-consecutive NCAA tournament bid under head coach Brian O’Connor, who earned National Coach of the Year honors. He led the Cavaliers across the country to compete as the No. 2 seed at the NCAA Irvine Regional, where they defeated San Diego State and then host and No. 6 national seed UC Irvine twice to advance to the first NCAA Super Regional in school history.

UVa then won two of three games in the NCAA Oxford Super Regional against Mississippi to earn a trip to the College World Series, where the Cavaliers made their first-ever appearance with a loss to eventual national champion LSU, a victory over No. 2 national seed Cal State Fullerton and a 12-inning defeat to Arkansas.

The Cavaliers led the ACC in batting (.327), ERA (3.23) and stolen bases (119), becoming just the second team in league history to lead the conference in all three categories.
