Auburn outfielder Trent Mummey and South Carolina outfielder Jackie Bradley, Jr. will each be sidelined to start the upcoming 2010 college baseball season due to injuries.

Mummey will miss the start of the 2010 Auburn season with a severely sprained right ankle. A 2009 Gold Glove Award Winner and a member of the SEC All-Defensive Team, he injured the ankle during practice this past weekend. No timetable is set for his return.

In two seasons, he has a .296 career batting average, making 103 starts in center field. Last season he hit a career-high 15 home runs and drove in 42 RBI, hitting primarily in the leadoff spot. He has also led the team in stolen bases in each of the past two seasons, swiping 18 as a freshman and 17 during his sophomore campaign.

Auburn opens the season on Friday, February 19th against Southeast Missouri State.

Jackie Bradley, Jr. (USC photo)

Bradley will be out four to eight weeks with a broken right hand. He was a consensus Freshman All-America selection in 2009. He had a productive first season with the Gamecocks batting .349 (89-for-255) with 11 HR and 46 RBI and played in all 63 games on the year with 61 starts. Bradley ended the season on a high note as well with a productive NCAA Regional in Greenville, N.C. as he hit .500 (9-for-18) for the weekend with a pair of homers and eight runs scored as well.

The Gamecocks open their season on Friday, February 19 when they host Duquesne.
