Saturday saw eight upset wins over top-50 teams (in CB360 Composite National Rankings), led by Houston’s 1-0 pitchers duel vs. #3 Texas. Two of the other upsets came in matchups between top-20 teams – as #12 Miami evened its series with visiting #5 Florida (9-6) while the Palmetto state series also now is squared, following #19 South Carolina’s 7-5 win over #9 Clemson (in Greenville, S.C.). Possibly the most noteworthy upsets of the day were turned in by St. Mary’s (Calif.) College – a 4-2 winner at #13 UC Irvine – and St. Louis University, which split a doubleheader vs. #24 Ohio State (9-15 loss, 10-9 win; in Port Charlotte, Fla.). Saturday’s three other top-50 upsets were as follows: at East Tennessee State 11, #34 St. John’s 7 … at Jacksonville State 8, #42 Middle Tennessee State 5 … and Eastern Illinois 12, at #48 Alabama Birmingham 6.

There were eight total matchups involving top-50 teams facing each other, with the more notable including #4 Florida State posting a 9-2 win over #27 Georgia (plus the Miami and South Carolina wins mentioned above).
