Day of Upsets (Thursday’s Top-50)
It was a night for underdogs, as Pepperdine (5-3 vs. #12 ECU) led four teams that knocked off CB360 top-50 teams (#9 Clemson was only top-50 team to win on Thursday). California hit a pair of 3-run home runs (plus a late solo shot) and held on for an 8-6 win at #23 Rice, while BYU won its home opener vs. #40 Washington (10-4) and Fresno State shut out #42 Cal State Fullerton (5-0; at San Diego State). Pepperdine, Cal and Fresno each had been ranked in the CB360 Composite National Rankings earlier this season (front-page photo courtesy of Pepperdine).
