TUCSON, Ariz. — Texas has been ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll.
The Longhorns (38-7) have won 20 straight games, their longest winning streak since 1988 when Texas also won 20 consecutive games. With a 3-game sweep of Baylor over the past weekend, the Longhorns set a new Big 12 Conference record with 17 consecutive league wins.
Right on the heels of Texas are two red-hot teams in Arizona St. (won three straight at UCLA, 6 wins in a row) and Virginia (10 consecutive victories).
Poll Notes: Several other teams have been exceptional. Mississippi, with a 3-game sweep of Mississippi St., has won 10 straight games. Portland has also won 10 in a row as has New Mexico St. Two teams fell out of the poll this week in Louisiana St. (0-4 last week) and Stanford (0-4 last week). New to the poll is San Diego (26-16, 12-0 West Coast Conference), and New Mexico St. (35-12-1, 13-2-1 Western Athletic Conference). Both San Diego and New Mexico St. are first in their respective conferences.
