Action was wide-open on Friday – with many series playing game-2 – as the lower-ranked/unranked teams won 40% of the games involving CB360 top-50 teams (14-21). Four underdogs clinched their series upsets – most notably #9 North Carolina after its 2-1 victory at #1 Virginia. In the Atlantic Sun Conference, a pair of NCAA bubble teams lost for the second straight day – as Mercer topped #44 East Tennessee State (12-2) and Kennesaw State bested #49 Jacksonville (5-3). The top of the SEC East standings once again feature a three-way tie for the top spot, as #2 Florida lost to Kentucky ace Alex Meyer (14-1) while #3 South Carolina (6-3 at #38 Alabama) and #4 Vanderbilt (9-3 at #42 Georgia) both rebounded from game-1 losses.
Other results of note included: #6 Texas winning again vs. #11 Texas A&M (6-4; putting the Longhorns one game ahead of the Aggies atop the Big 12 standings) … Virginia Tech‘s 7-5 upset of #10 Georgia Tech (preventing GT from tying Virginia for the ACC Coastal lead) … Cal State Bakersfield winning 6-0 at #18 Fresno State … Belmont tying its series at #20 Stetson (5-2) … and Troy (11-6 winner at South Alabama) edging back ahead of #23 Florida International, in the race for the Sun Belt title (FIU lost a 2-0 game to Florida Atlantic).
The only CB360 top-50 team that was not scheduled to play on not in action on Friday was #12 Cal State Fullerton, which was idle until a May 24 game at San Diego.
