On most days, UNC Greensboro‘s 8-4 win at #10 North Carolina would have been the big story – but it was only the 4th-most noteworthy upset that played out on Tuesday. There were even two more top-15 teams that were knocked off, as Loyola Marymount edged visiting #13 Cal State Fullerton, 6-5, while #22 Oregon State won 7-1 at #14 Oregon, in the first installment of their 2012 Civil War rivalry.

Andrew Longley (South Florida)

Tuesday’s three other top-50 upsets included: Memphis 4-2 vs. #17 Mississippi … Coastal Carolina 10-7 at #31 Clemson … and Oklahoma State 6-1 vs. #43 Oklahoma, in yet another rivalry series (“Bedlam”).

There were four head-to-head matchups between top-50 teams on Tuesday, with two won by the favorites – including #29 Georgia Tech scoring in the 9th to beat #37 Georgia, 4-3 (in front of nearly 20,000 fans at Turner Field). #16 Texas A&M got back in the win column, 4-1 at #36 TCU.

The five newcomers/returners to the CB360 top-50 are #33 College of Charleston, #47 Texas State, #48 UNC Wilmington, #49 Washington and #50 Campbell (all but UNCW were in the top-50 previously this season) – with Coastal Carolina, Liberty, Elon, Cal Poly and UC Irvine all falling out of the top-50.
