(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK)  SportsTravel magazine, a national publication that serves the sports-based travel industry, has announced that the 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship has been nominated for a 2010 SportsTravel Award.

Outstanding sporting events are nominated and then voted by the readers of SportsTravel. Criteria for nomination and voting include superior organization of and attendance at the event, a superior experience for the competitors and/or spectators at the event, and how the site or venue served to enhance the event.

The 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship was played on May 26-30, 2010 at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark with Texas A&M winning the championship. This was Texas A&M’s second Big 12 Championship and their first since 2007.

The Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship is hosted by the Oklahoma City All Sports Association. The All Sports Association has hosted twelve Big 12 Baseball Championships and a combined 35 Big 8 and Big 12 championships. The Big 12 Baseball Championship brings in an estimated $7-8 million in economic impact every year to Oklahoma City.

“The Big 12 Baseball Championship is the best college tournament in the country and a true Oklahoma City tradition,” said Tim Brassfield, Executive Director of the Oklahoma City All Sports Association. “We are thrilled that so many people have had the opportunity to visit and experience the energy, hospitality and excitement of our great state while attending this tremendous championship in our Bricktown District”

Events hosted by the Oklahoma City All Sports Association benefit Oklahoma City by providing quality athletic competition, family entertainment and a boost in the city’s economy. At the same time, the events garner widespread attention and attract visitors from around the globe to Oklahoma City, which provides $30-70 million in new money for Oklahoma City’s economy each year.

“Since the location of the event is a major part of the criteria for being nominated, the people of Oklahoma City should take great pride in knowing that an event held in their city is being recognized for its excellence,” said Timothy Schneider, publisher of SportsTravel magazine. “SportsTravel readers are the leaders of the sports-event industry and they really know what it takes to execute a high-quality athletic event,” said Schneider. “The SportsTravel Awards program is an opportunity for them to honor their peers and the cities that host sporting events for a job well done.”
