Here’s a quick look at the updated CB360 Composite National Rankings, to be used in daily tracking of the Top–50 teams (primarily for the weekend of April 8–10).
As a reminder, the CB360 CNR is more than a simple average of the below factors. A max. of 60 teams per element enters into the formula, and in several cases (i.e. coaches poll and Collegiate Baseball magazine ratings) the actual voting points play a role, beyond the simple placement (1-2-3, etc.). Projected NCAA fields also are extended to “seed” the first 32 teams 1–32 (all of the 3-seeds at each site are slated at 40.5, unless a “four last in” is included … in that case, those teams are 45–48 and the other regional 3-seeds are slated at 38.5). In short, a lot of inputting work and tweaking to the formula has been used over the years – ultimately to provide a snapshot of the 50 teams solidly in the mix to receive an NCAA Tournament bid (not including the lower-tier teams that ultimately will receive conference automatic bids).
The CNR formula has expanded to include the following 20 elements, with still more to be added in upcoming weeks:
• National Coaches Poll (USA Today/ESPN; 44 total teams)
• National Collegiate Baseball Writers poll (51 total teams)
• DIBaseball.com top-25
