NORTH CAROLINA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of North Carolina (6-0) is ranked No. 1 for the second consecutive week in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Tar Heels swept a 3-game series at home against Stony Brook over the past weekend. North Carolina features a pitching staff that has a 2.00 ERA and a 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio (48 strikeouts, 16 walks) over six games. Opponents are only hitting .162 against the Tar Heels.

Eleven teams are unbeaten in the current poll headed by two 9-0 teams (Mississippi St. and Oklahoma) and two 8-0 ball clubs (Oregon St. and Cal. St. Fullerton).

Poll Notes: In key series over the past weekend, Cal. St. Fullerton swept a 3-game set against Texas Christian, Oregon St. swept a 3-game series at San Diego St., Florida Gulf Coast swept a 3-game series at Florida, and Pepperdine won two of three at Texas A&M. Four teams fell out of the top 30 this week in San Diego St. (0-4 last week), Florida (1-4), Texas A&M (3-2), and Southern Mississippi (2-2).

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
