Mississippi State’s 7-5 win over Florida (cb360 #2) highlighted a rash of Friday upsets, as college baseball fans were treated to an assortment of exciting matchups and upsets from coast-to-coast. Friday’s marquee series opener saw Virginia’s Danny Hultzen outduel Georgia Tech’s Mark Pope, in a 6-2 win for a Cavaliers team that has lost only twice all season. The day’s action featured 11 head-to-head matchups between CB360 top-50 teams, with other noteworthy results including #7 Florida State besting #8 North Carolina (5-3) along with six upsets: #19 Oregon State 5-3 vs. #5 Arizona State … #50 San Jose State 3-1 vs. #10 Fresno State … #29 UC Irvine 15-3 at #12 Cal State Fullerton … #25 Arkansas 2-0 vs. #16 LSU … #22 Arizona 5-4 vs. #18 California … and #34 Georgia 9-8 at #33 Mississippi.

In addition to the losses by top-10 teams Florida, ASU and Fresno, #6 Texas A&M also suffered an upset loss on Friday (3-4 at Texas Tech, in 12 innings). Friday’s other upsets (based on the top-50 in CB360’s Composite National Rankings), in addition to those referenced above, played out as follows: Kansas State 2-0 vs. #11 Oklahoma … Memphis 6-5 vs. #15 Southern Mississippi … New Mexico 10-5 at #17 TCU … The Citadel 6-2 vs. #45 College of Charleston … UAB 10-1 at #46 Houston … Illinois State 5-4 vs. #48 Creighton … and UC Davis 8-1 at #49 Long Beach State.
