According to the Miami Herald, Wittels, 20, Robert Rothschild, 21, and Jonathon Oberti, 21, were arrested on December 20 and released on $10,000 bond after a court hearing on Dec. 23.

Wittels and Oberti are charged with allegedly raping one of the girls. Rothschild is charge with allegedly raping both girls.

The alleged incident happened at the Atlantis Hotel and Resort and Casino on Paradise Island last week.

Wittel’s father, Michael Wittels,  told the Herald “Anyone can accuse anyone of anything at any time,” Michael Wittels said. “He’s not doing well, obviously. He’s blown away. He’s devastated that someone would accuse him of this.”

Michael Wittels went on to say the girls passed themselves off as students at the University of Arkansas and followed Garret Wittels and his friends to a private party. The elder Wittels also says there is surveillance video that shows the girls were the aggressors in pursuing the men. The legal age of consent in the Bahamas is 16.

Wittels gained fame during the 2010 college baseball season by hitting safely in 56 straight games. It’s the second longest Division I hitting streak of all time. Robin Ventura’s 58-game streak is the NCAA DI record. FIU’s first three games of the 2010 season are scheduled to be televised by the ESPN family of networks as he attempts to break the mark.
