Michigan is the third Big Ten school to release its 2011 college baseball schedule. The Wolverines will open their season February 18-20 at the third annual Big Ten/Big East Challenge against three still to be determined Big East Conference teams.

After a return to Ann Arbor, the Wolverines go back to Florida to start their spring break trip the following weekend for three games against Rutgers in Port St. Lucie on Feb. 26 and 27. They play an exhibition against the New York Mets the following day and then face Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Meyers on March 2.

Michigan stays on the road with a trip to the Lone Star State when it plays two games each against Massachusetts and host Sam Houston State in the Sam Houston State Tournament in Huntsville, TX.

The Wolverines then travel to Rock Hill, SC for two games apiece vs. Winthrop and Stony Brook in the Bojangles Baseball Classic March 11-13 and then UM heads to Palo Alto, CA for three games against Stanford March 18-20. Those three games complete a stretch of 19 games in four states away from home to open the season.

Michigan plays its home opener against Michigan State on March 25. The Wolverines and Spartans play the middle game of their three game series in East Lansing the following day and then conclude the set back in Ann Arbor on March 26. The games are considered a “non-conference” series, because the two rivals are not scheduled to face-off in Big Ten action in 2011.

The Wolverines host Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, and Penn State in conference action. Road Big Ten series are at Purdue, Ohio State, Iowa, and Northwestern.

Texas Tech visits Ann Arbor May 10 and 11. It’s the first time in head coach Rich Maloney’s tenure at Michigan that a team from south of the Mason/Dixon line will visit Michigan.

The Wolverines also play a home and home series with Notre Dame on May 3 and 4.

The Big Ten Tournament is may 25-28 in Columbus, OH.
