The first seven days of the 2011 college baseball season have yielded similar success rates for top-50 teams in the CB360 Composite National Rankings – with the higher-ranked teams winning at an 83% clip (115-23) during the weekend of Feb. 18-20, followed by 82% wins (27-6) during the past four days of midweek action (Feb. 21-24). The other five midweek upsets of CB360 top-50 teams included: Texas A&M Corpus Christi 8-7 at preseason #6 Texas A&M … Lamar 12-7 at preseason #17 Rice … at Georgia Southern 6-5 vs. preseason #23 Georgia Tech … at Southeastern Louisiana 13-1 vs. preseason #38 Tulane … and current #35 Florida Atlantic 6-1 at #19 Miami.
In addition to the FAU-Miami and K-State-Coastal games, the 33 midweek games included four other showdowns between fellow CB360 top-50 teams (all ranks are preseason): #11 Oregon 4-3 at #41 Hawaii … #2 Florida 13-2 at #35 Florida Atlantic … #3 TCU 2-0 at #25 Baylor … and #13 Stanford‘s 3-2 home win vs. #24 California.

One day after losing 13-2 to Florida, the Florida Atlantic Owls bounced back for a 7-4 upset of Miami – highlighting Wednesday’s limited schedule of marquee. FAU (#35) and the #19 Hurricanes both currently are ranked among the top-50 of the CB360 Composite National Rankings.
The central time zone was featured in several of Wednesday’s big college baseball games, as four of the day’s seven games involving CB360 top-50 teams took place in the states of Texas, Tennessee or Mississippi.

There were four noteworthy upsets on Tuesday – highlighted by a team with one of the longest names in Division I (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) winning 8-7 at Texas, ranked #6 in the CB360 preseason top-50 (but now only 3-2 for the season). The upset bug also hit in nearby Houston, as Lamar won 12-7 at #17 Rice.

There also was plenty of drama in the peach state, as Georgia Southern answered #24 Georgia Tech‘s run in the top of the 9th by scoring two in the bottom of the inning for a 6-5 win. Tuesday’s other upset in the CB360 preseason top-50 was not close, as Southeastern Louisiana took care of visiting Tulane (cb360 preseason #38), 13-1.
Tuesday’s slate of 21 games involving CB360 preseason top-50 squads featured three head-to-head battles, with #2Florida winning 13-2 at #35Florida Atlantic while #3TCU escaped with a 2-0 win at #25 Baylor and #13 Stanford edged its visiting Bay-area rivalCalifornia (#24) in a 3-2 final.
