Darin Erstad’s First Slate Set…

Nebraska has released its 2012 college baseball schedule. In their first season in the Big Ten Conference the Cornhuskers will not take part in the 2012 Big Ten/Big East Baseball Challenge. Instead, they will open their season February 17-19 with a three game series vs Gonzaga in Peoria, Ariz.

Two games against Utah and single games vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UNLV come the next weekend in Corpus Christi, TX. The Huskers will then play West Virginia, New Mexico State and host Minnesota March 2-4 in the Metrodome during the Dairy Queen Classic.

New head coach, Darin Erstad, will have his home opener against Kansas State on March 6 at Hawks Field in Lincoln. It’s the first of 31 scheduled home games in 2012.

Nebraska hosts 2011 College World Series team, Cal, in a four game series March 9-12. 2012 will mark the second straight season the Cornhuskers have hosted a non-conference opponent that advanced to the CWS the previous year. They hosted UCLA earlier this year after the Bruins were the CWS runner-up in 2010. Division One Independent, Cal State Bakersfield, also visits Lincoln April 27-29.

The Cornhuskers play their first ever Big Ten Conference games at home when they host Illinois March 23-27. Other home Big Ten series are against Iowa, Purdue and Minnesota.

Nebraska goes on the road for Big Ten series vs. Northwestern, Ohio State, Indiana, and Michigan.
