Oregon (at UCLA) & Stanford (at Oregon St.) Repeat Big Road Wins; Duke Upsets FSU … The upset bug returned on Saturday for 12 teams in the top-50 of the CB360 Composite National Rankings (CNR), led by #31 Oregon‘s 8-4, series-clinching road vs. the CNR’s #2 team, UCLA (the Bruins opened 22-0, but are 4-5 over the past two weeks), and a similar series-clincher on the road by #45 Stanford, vs. #14 Oregon State (5-3, in 10). Saturday’s 40 games involving CB360 top-50 teams featured 12 upsets, with other noteworthy results including: Duke‘s 10-6 game vs. #8 Florida State (in Cary, N.C.; Duke took the series from current #16 Clemson the previous week); Florida Atlantic winning both ends of a doubleheader with 1-run wins vs. #18 Western Kentucky (completing a surprising series sweep that could hinder WKU’s NCAA at-large hopes); and Texas Tech knocking off visiting #19 Oklahoma (7-3) in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader.

Saturday’s action also included the continuation of 13 head-to-head series between CB360 top-50 teams. In addition to the aforementioned wins by Oregon and Stanford, there were two other upsets in these showdown series: #24 Auburn 12, at #21 Vanderbilt 2 (squaring that series) … and #37 Texas State 12, at #35 Southeastern Louisiana 10 (tying that key Southland Conference matchup). Note that the top-50 matchups are featured at the top of the schedule that is listed below.

In other top-50 showdowns, #5 Texas won 14-0 at rival Texas A&M (#32 in the CNR) for the series clincher. Other CB360 top-50 teams that clinched series vs. fellow top-50 squads included: at #3 Virginia 8, #25 Virginia Tech 3 … at #6 Georgia Tech 4, #16 Clemson 3 … at #7 Florida 6, #40 Kentucky 3 … at #10 LSU 9, #26 Alabama 7 … #12 South Carolina 9, at #20 Mississippi 5 … #15 Miami 11, at #36 North Carolina 1 … #23 Arizona 13, at #44 Washington State 6 … and at #26 Kansas State 5, #38 Baylor 2.

Two other teams joined Oregon and Stanford in clinching the series upsets vs. CB360 top-50 teams – as Liberty (Big South Conf.) knocked off visiting #42 VMI for the second straight day (9-2; the Keydets failed to ride the momentum of their upset earlier in the week vs. UVa), while Ohio State made a big statement in the Big Ten with another win at #48 Michigan State, 4-3.

That means 11 of the 13 head-to-head matchup series between CB360 top-50 teams already have been decided (all but Vandy-Auburn and SELA-Texas St.). Nine other series involving CNR top-50 teams will be decided on Sunday: FSU-Duke … OU-TT … #28 Rice at Central Florida (UCF won 6-4 on Sat.) … #33 UC Irvine vs. Univ. of the Pacific (UOP posted the 7-4 upset in game-2) … UC Santa Barbara at #17 Cal State Fullerton (the Titans easily won on Sat., 17-3) … Washington at #22 California (Cal was a 3-2 winner in game-2) … #41 Kansas at Nebraska (KU tied the series, 7-4) … #47 Western Carolina at Elon (WCU won 14-8 on Sat.) … and #50 Long Beach State at UC Riverside (LBSU is coming off an 8-3 victory).

Saturday’s action (listed below) featured all of the CB360 top-50 teams, involved in a total of 40 games (13 head-to-head; three doubleheaders). Two series concluded on Saturday with sweeps (#13 TCU at BYU, and FAU vs. WKU).
