Bids From Multiple Cities Being Received…

The SEC Baseball Tournament has been played at Region’s Park in Hoover, AL since 1998, but next year could be the last year it’s played there.  Seven cities, including Hoover,  have been sent bid packages to host the tournament in 2012.

According to the Birmingham News, Duluth, Ga, Jackson, Ms, Jacksonville, Fl, Little Rock, Ar, Memphis, Tn, and Montgomery, Al are the other cities with minor league baseball facilities that received the packages.

However, Little Rock is not expected to bid, because chairback seating capacity at Dickey-Stephens Park is only 5,800.  The stadium is home to the AA Arkansas Travelers.  The SEC’s preference is to host the event in a facility that seats at least 10,000.  9.426 fans attended the Arkansas-Louisiana Tech game there this past season.

A look at the other stadiums:

Duluth: Coolray Field. Home of the AAA Gwinnett Braves. Capacity: 10,000

Hoover: Regions Park. Home of the AA Birmingham Barons. Capacity: 16,000.
