Challenging Slate Awaits Cardinal…

Stanford is the fifth Pac 10 Conference school to release its 2011 college baseball schedule, and a challenging opening month awaits head coach Mark Marquess‘ squad. Marquess is now in his 35th season as head coach of his alma mater.

The Cardinal opens the season February 18-20 in Houston, TX against Conference USA power Rice. After a non-conference home game vs. Cal on Feb. 22 Stanford heads to Nashville, TN the following weekend with a three game series vs. Vanderbilt. That series is followed by a home game vs. Santa Clara on March 1, and then Stanford travels to Austin, TX to face reigning Big 12 champion Texas.

Vanderbilt and Texas both advanced to Super Regionals during 2010 NCAA Tournament play.

Stanford opens Pac 10 play April 1-3 at Washington State. Other conference road series are at USC, Arizona State, Oregon, and Cal.  The Cardinal hosts Oregon State, 2010 national runner-up UCLA, Washington, and Arizona in other Pac 10 series.

Stanford is one of a record eight Pac 10 teams to advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2010.
