While an assortment of teams such as Valparaiso (10-9 at #7 Arkansas) and Appalachian State (11-1 win at #10 LSU) were fashioning more upsets on Sunday, three California teams – #3 Stanford (15-1 vs. #8 Texas), #20 Cal State Fullerton (11-10 vs. #13 TCU) and #25 UCLA (8-6 vs. #26 Baylor) – combined to sweep their Lone Star State visitors in the series finales, giving the west-coasters a decided weekend advantage against their Texan visitors (the CA schools won all three series and 7-of-9 games; 65-45 scoring margin). Oregon (cb360 #36) already had clinched its own upset series before completing the sweep at #18 Vanderbilt, 7-6. Here’s a list of the four other underdogs (along w/ App. State & Fullerton) that registered series-clinching wins on Sunday:
• at Long Beach State 2, #22 California 1
• Washington 4, at #24 UC Irvine 3
• at Pepperdine 6, #43 Fresno State 0
• at Portland 5, #50 Creighton 3 (shortened to 2-game series)
Michael Fuda (Rice)
Stanford and #5 Rice (7-3 vs. #38 Dallas Baptist) wrapped up series sweeps vs. fellow top-50 teams, with UCLA also claiming a key series victory (2 games to 1). For the third straight day, #47 Florida International battled #11 Florida State to the wire– with FSU claiming the hard-fought series clincher (3-1). Finally, #35 Southern Mississippi won 8-1 over #48 Troy to take that series, after dropping the opener.
Three of the underdogs listed above – Appalachian State, Oregon and UC Irvine – pulled off their series wins while playing on the opponent’s field. All told, there were 12 upsets on Sunday involving CB360 top-50 teams (higher ranked teams went 30-12, 71%, with one rainout), those mentioned above plus:

• Radford 5, at #34 Georgia Southern 4
• Rhode Island 2, #44 Connecticut 0 (at College of Charleston)

Stanford and Rice were two of only 12 top-50 teams that posted series sweeps over the weekend, with the others including: #1 Florida (William & Mary), #2 South Carolina (Elon), #6 North Carolina (Wright State), #12 Miami (Albany), #15 Georgia (Winthrop), #19 Oklahoma (Hartford), #23 Louisville (Oakland, MI), #29 Virginia (Monmouth), #31 Mississippi (UNC Wilmington) and #39 USC (Akron). Mississippi State was 4-0 during the weekend, after a pair of home wins vs. both Kansas and Mississippi Valley State.
