Laid-Back Sunday Features Handful of Key Games …
It’s somewhat of a “lazy Sunday” across Division I baseball, with only 11 games involving top-50 teams in the CB360 Composite National Rankings. There are 15 total top-50 teams in action, with four head-to-head matchups and several other key games on tap. (front-page photo courtesy of UC Riverside)

Sunday’s 11 games involving CB360 top-50 teams include all five Pac-10 series, plus three in the Big-12, two series involving Big West teams, and one in the WCC.
Texas (23-3) ran away with the Big 12 regular-season title, but the #2 spot will be decided based on the outcome of two Sunday games. Current 2nd-place team Oklahoma (CB360 #18) is 14-10 in the Big 12 and will be looking to complete a sweep at 7th-place Kansas (11-14). #32 Kansas State (14-11) can claim the #2 seed by winning the rubber-match at #31 Texam A&M (13-12), combined with an OU loss. A&M also will have something extra to play for, as a win would give the Aggies the #3 seed and drop K-State to #4.
Texas Tech (13-12) has dropped the first two games of its series at 9th-place Nebraska, but the 5th-place Red Raiders still could get the #4 seed with a win and an A&M loss. There could be some more swapping of positions in the bottom of the tournament field (the eight entrants are set), as Baylor is 11-13, Kansas 11-4 and Missouri 10-15. Baylor is playing at home vs. 10th-place Oklahoma State and Missouri is playing host to Texas (which won the first two games of the series).
The Pac-10 – which still has one full weekend of league play remaining (no tournament) – continues to be jumbled in the middle, with Stanford (12-11) clinging to 3rd-place while three teams are tied for 4th (Cal, Oregon & Arizona, all 11-12), Washington is 10-13 and Oregon State 9-14.
Two Pac-10 series will be decided on Sunday –Oregon (CB360 #23) at Washington and #35 Stanford at #25 Arizona – while three teams will be looking to complete sweeps: #1 Arizona State vs. #41 Oregon State … #6 UCLA at #30 Cal … and #28 Washington State vs. USC.
UC Irvine – which entered the weekend #26 in the CB360 composite rankings but only #52 in the official NCAA RPI (release May 18) – could use a win on Sunday over UC Riverside, after losing game-2 in 12 innings. Cal State Fullerton clinched the Big West title last week, but Irvine (13-7) still has some work to do in order to secure the runner-up finish (Pacific is 12-8 and Riverside 11-9). UOP is wrapping up its series at Cal Poly – with next week’s final series to include UCI at Long Beach, UOP at home vs. UC Santa Barbara, and Riverside playing host to UC Davis.
