Teams are starting to scale back their midweek schedules in order to focus more directly on conference play – with “only” 19 games on Tuesday’s schedule involving top-50 teams in the newly-updated CB360 Composite National Rankings (CNR … which now includes 16 different elements in the composite formula). Four of Tuesday’s top-50 games resulted in upsets (there was one rainout), while four others were head-to-head matchups between CB360 top-50 teams.   front-page photo courtesy of Western Kentucky

For the second time in the past three weeks, San Jose State knocked off Stanford (cb360 #7), this time by an 8-5 score at home. Another in-state battle went to the underdog – as Western Kentucky ran past visiting #22 Louisville (8-1) – while Texas Tech made the most of its midweek trip to #24 New Mexico State by winning 12-7. Tuesday’s other upset saw previous top-50 team Cal Poly edge visiting #32 Pepperdine, 2-1 in 10 innings (thanks to a Jimmy Allen home run).

Jordan Spencer (Oregon)

The four head-to-head games all went to the teams higher-ranked in the CNR: #12 Oregon 3-2 at #37 Gonzaga … #14 Texas A&M 10-0 at #25 Sam Houston State … #38 TCU 4-3 vs. #45 Oklahoma … and #43 Wake Forest 7-5 vs. #50 Elon.

The three returners to the CB360 top-50 are #34 Coastal Carolina, #48 Auburn and #50 Elon – with Texas State, Campbell and Washington slipping outside the top-50 in the current CNR update.

The 16 elements that now comprise the formula for the CB360 Composite National Rankings include six national polls, six RPI-type listings (newly added: Warren Nolan predicted pre-NCAAs RPI) and four projections of the 64-team NCAA field.
