The season-long trend of the underdogs winning at a rate of one-third continued on Saturday, as the lower-ranked/unranked teams went 15-27 (36%) in games involving top-50 teams in the CB360 Composite National Rankings. The nine head-to-head series between CB360 top-50 teams include two within the top-10 – with #5 Kentucky salvaging its series finale vs. #3 Florida (2-1; Gators won first two games) while #9 UCLA swept its doubleheader vs, visiting #8 Purdue (5-1, 3-2).

The weekend’s series involving CB360 top-50 teams include a whopping 17 that are scheduled to play decisive games on Sunday (three others don’t finish until Monday; all of these listed are 1-1, unless otherwise indicated):
• #4 LSU at #21 Mississippi (Rebs won 7-4 on Sat.)
• #6 South Carolina at #15 Arkansas (Hog won 7-6 on Sat.)
• #7 Stanford at #26 Oregon State (Beavers won 4-2 on Sat.)
• #12 Oregon at #13 Arizona (‘Cats won 12-6 on Sat.)
• Houston at #10 Rice
• #21 Louisville at West Virginia (WVU split Sat. DH 4-3/6-7)
• #25 Sam Houston State at Texas Arlington (UTA split Sat. DH 0-2/7-4)
• #29 Texas at Missouri (Tigers won 5-4 Sat.)

• #37 Gonzaga at Saint Mary’s

#41 Georgia Tech will play a Sunday doubleheader looking to sweep visiting Charlotte, while #16 North Carolina State will be attempting the same vs. Cal State Bakersfield (after a Sat. rainout).

In addition to Hawaii’s sweep-completing win over NMSU and the Florida-Kentucky battle, two other top-50 series wrapped up on Saturday – as #20 San Diego finished a sweep at BYU (12-6), as did #40 Dallas Baptist at Evansville (14-1, 5-2 on Sat.).

Only 12 teams (that are up 2-0) will be looking to complete their own sweeps on Sunday, most notably #9 UCLA vs. #8 Purdue and #42 Georgia vs. visting #48 Auburn.

Three teams won Saturday while opening Sat.-Sun.-Mon. series: #35 Clemson’s comeback in the 11th inning vs. #30 College of Charleston, 4-3 … #1 Florida State moving to 20-2 in the ACC, after 10-3 win over Maryland … and #18 Central Florida vs. Presbyterian (8-1).

The annual “Bedlam” series saw Oklahoma State win on Friday (3-0, in Tulsa), while OU’s series-tying win on Sat. came in Oklahoma City (where Sunday’s decisive game will be played as well).

#36 Missouri State is the only team playing outside of a series format, competing in an odd late-season tournament at Kansas (the Bears beat Air Force on Fri. and again Sat., with a game Sunday vs. the homestanding Jayhawks).

Saturday’s 37 series featuring CB360 top-50 teams included six that played doubleheaders (two of them due to games that were suspended on Friday). The four top-50 teams that remained idle include: #2 Baylor (next vs. Texas State, on 5/9) … #19 Virginia (next vs. High Point, also on 5.9) … #39 Virginia Tech (next vs. NC State, 5-11) … and #43 Wake Forest (next at Miami, 5/11).
