Despite being picked to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference (behind Missouri State, Creighton and Wichita State), Indiana State has clinched the MVC regular-season title with two games still to play.

Thursday’s eight head-to-head matchups between cb360 top-50 teams produced yet another upset loss for #1 Florida State (10-5 vs. visiting #14 North Carolina State), as FSU now is 1-4 over the past 11 days.

Elsewhere in key matchups, Mississippi State ace Chris Stratton picked up his 10th win of the season in a 3-1 victory for the #36 Bulldogs over SEC regular-season title contender Kentucky (#9). Surging #49 Vanderbilt moved two games over .500 with a 3-0 win at #26 Mississippi.

#2 Florida’s 6-0 win at Auburn kept the SEC race a 4-team battle – as the Gators are 17-11 and Kentucky 18-10, while #8 LSU (17-10) now will open its series at #7 South Carolina (17-9) with a Friday doubleheader.

#24 Miami pulled off a stunning rally to win 5-4 at #33 Georgia Tech, with the Hurricanes scoring once in the 8th and three more in the 9th. Thursday’s other head-to-head results between cb360 top-50 squads included: #3 Baylor 16-5 vs. #37 Texas … #6 North Carolina 13-2 vs. #44 Virginia Tech … and #17 Virginia 7-6 at #48 Maryland.

The day’s four other top-50 upsets included Seton Hall winning 4- at #46 St. John’s to further tighten the BIG EAST race (StJ & Louisville are 17-8 while SHU & South Florida are 16-9). Other top-50 upsets on Thursday included: Wake Forest 5-2 vs. #28 Clemson … surging Samford 4-2 at #38 Oklahoma … and Penn State 3-2 at #50 Michigan State.

The 12 CB360 top-50 teams that were idle on Thursday are primarily from the Pac-12 and West Coast conferences (which don’t sponsor conference tournaments and will close league play next weekend). The idle top-50 teams include: #4 Oregon, #5 UCLA, #12 Stanford,  #15 Cal State Fullerton, #16 Arizona, #19 Oregon State, #21 San Diego, #22 TCU, #27-Arizona State, #3o East Carolina, #34 Pepperdine and #45 New Mexico State.

San Diego is taking a weekend off before returning for the huge WCC showdown at Pepperdine on March 25-27 … while ECU will be playing a final-weekend tournament at VCU (Sat. vs. VMI, Sun. vs. VCU). All the other idle teams listed above will be playing their usual Fri.-.Sat.-Sun. conference series.
